Bombay Times Lavasa Women’s Drive in the Limca Book of Records

The second edition of the Lavasa Women’s Drive (LWD), conceptualised by Times Red Cell has bagged the prestigious title of India’s Largest Women’s Car Rally by the Limca Book of Records 2011. On 27th February 2010, One Thousand women in 285 cars drove a distance of 240 Kms. from Mumbai to Lavasa creating this record. This drive witnessed enthusiastic participation from women of all age groups and diverse social backgrounds. This drive provided a great platform for the participants to create awareness about women’s cancers. Many participants decorated their cars in innovative themes to promote various social causes i.e. Save Electricity, Water, Tiger and Nature Conservation etc

For us, the growth of the category is paramount. Internet penetration is 6 per cent and 70 per cent of that user base comes to Yahoo!, so the only thing we can do to grow is grow the category. One key area that can grow the category is the presence of more of local languages on the web. Web is still predominantly in English right now. Many steps have been taken towards creating local content, but there is a lot more that needs to be done. This year, we are looking at how we can make our service available in six different languages. We believe this will bring many more audiences to the medium.
