Cannes Lions 2008 has announced the shortlists of the Cyber Lions and the Design Lions. India has got 14 shortlisted entries in the newly introduced Design category. There are five from JWT, three from Meridian, three from Leo Burnett, and one each from Contract, Rediffusion DYR and McCann Erickson. There are two shortlists in the Cyber category, both from Leo Burnett.

The office of MTV India in Mumbai was attacked on Monday afternoon. According to media reports, it was allegedly attacked by a group of Sikhs to protest a poster of a show called 'On the job', a career-based reality programme on the music channel.

WWE and Ten Sports have announced a new agreement which will see WWE available exclusively on the channel in India all the way till 2014. Ten Sports will have exclusive broadcast rights to over 450 hours of first run, WWE content in the sub-continent, including Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan, Afghanistan and the Maldives.

The Press Lions and Radio Lions have brought more cheer for Indian agencies. There are 33 Indian entries that have made it to the Press Lions, with Leo Burnett having the highest with eight shortlisted entries; O&M and Cheil have five each; JWT India has four; McCann Erickson and Saatchi & Saatchi, three each; and Grey, Contract and Mudra, one each. There are five Indian entries shortlisted for the Radio Lions: three from TBWA\India and two from Mudra.

It is a good beginning for India. The shortlists of the Cannes Media Lions and Outdoor Lions have been announced on the second day of the Festival. There are 23 Indian entries that have made it to the Outdoor Lions shortlist. And in Media Lions, nine Indian entries have been shortlisted.

The Cannes Lions International Advertising Festival 2008 has begun on a great note for India, and even better for JWT India. The agency bagged the first-ever Grand Prix for India in the Direct Awards. Contract Advertising won a Silver and a Bronze in this category. Promo Lions winners were also announced, and JWT is the only winner here, but it was a Bronze.
