‘Sunday NaiDunia’ on expansion spree, to launch from 7 state capitals in January
At a time when most publications are putting their expansion plans on hold due to the economic slowdown, NaiDunia is set to launch its weekly publication, ‘Sunday NaiDunia’, from no less than seven state capitals simultaneously. The publication would be a combination of 16 pages newspaper and 48 pages magazine in Hindi.

The industry has been rife of late with rumours of NDTV Metro Nation being shut down. Though NDTV has shot down such rumours, the television major is on a serious cost cutting spree.

The Indian news broadcasters demonstrated a rare show of unity on January 13, 2009, when all key editors of mainstream news channels in a letter to the Prime Minister protested against the MIB’s decision to amend the Cable TV Act without consultations with the broadcasters. All news channels had telecast their stand on this development at 8.00 pm on the day. Following this and several meetings with various Government and political officials, the PMO has assured consultation on the Cable TV Act. VGC has new designs; forms strategic partnerships with 6 global specialists
Vyas Giannetti Creative has launched a specialised Design and Communication Cell. The agency has partnered with six global design specialists, that include the likes of Flex/the Innovation Lab, Lava Graphic Studios, InDeed, Saffron, Dixonbaxi and Ryan+Deslauriers for this venture. Preeti Vyas, Chairwoman & Chief Creative Officer, VGC, who is directly involved in this cell, sees this as a reinvention of the agency.
Comment: Gag order – a united media can put Govt on the backfoot
Some good sense has finally prevailed upon the Manmohan Singh Government. If our sources are to be believed, the Prime Minister has put on hold the proposed amendments to the Cable Bill until possibly the General Elections. It is good to see the industry united on the issue with the NBA playing a key role in mobilising opinion.
Kids’ genre has a new player – Spacetoon TV
Kids Media India, a subsidiary of Dubai-based Spacetoon Media Group, launched its first free-to-air kids edutainment Hindi channel, Spacetoon Kids TV, in India on January 14. The channel will be marketed through numerous on-ground activities. The channel would be available in other languages later on.
