Shavon Barua, who was heading the operations as General Manager of Dentsu Q-Pro, has put in his papers. She is yet to reveal her next destination. Dentsu Q-Pro is a specialist division that works in the area of recruitment and employment advertising. Barua’s last stint was as Associate VP with Ambience Publicis, Mumbai. She began her career in 1995 with Bates Enterprise in Kolkata (then Clarion). She has also worked with SSC&B Lintas, Mumbai and Rediffusion DY&R.

Rajeev Ravindranathan, Creative Director, Saatchi & Saatchi, Bangalore, has joined Fish Eye Creative Solutions as Creative Director. He will report to Robert Anthoney Founding Partner and Creative Director, Fish Eye. Ravindranathan has previously worked with agencies like Bates Enterprise, Enterprise Nexus, Fountain Head in Chennai and JWT, Bangalore, among others. He has handled brands like TVS Victor, Tata Tea and WorldSpace.

Samsung has formed a strategic alliance with Yahoo! and Google to distribute their popular services and products on Samsung mobile phones. Samsung will pre-load Yahoo! services, including Yahoo! Go for Mobile 2.0, Yahoo! Mail and Yahoo! Messenger on its mobile phones in the first half of 2007.

STAR CEO, Michelle Guthrie, has resigned. She will be succeeded by STAR Group’s President, Paul Aiello from March 1. Meanwhile, reverberations are also being felt in India. It is learnt that STAR Group CEO, Peter Mukerjea, and STAR Entertainment CEO, Sameer Nair, have also put in their papers. A new name expected in India in March 2007 is that of UK-based Tata Tetley’s Vijay Singh.

Univercell, the largest retailer in mobile phones in Tamil Nadu, has appointed Starcom Worldwide Chennai as its media agency. The account size is pegged upwards of Rs 3 crore. There was no formal pitch involved for the business. Rubecon is handling the creative duties of Univercell.

I am extremely unhappy with the channel rate of Rs 5 under the CAS regime. We are being forced to sell in metros like Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata at the same rate. We have requested TRAI to treat sports channels in a different manner and not club then in the same price bracket as that of entertainment channels.
